This handbook is meant to help parliamentarians in any country’s government learn about the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and how they can play a role in its ratification, implementation, and monitoring. The handbook:
- Provides an overview of the challenges that confront people with disabilities and why the CRPD was needed to resolve these challenges
- Reviews the contents of the CRPD and the mechanisms used to monitor the CRPD and the Optional Protocol
- Discusses how parliamentarians can incorporate the CRPD into their country’s laws and how to implement the CRPD in areas such as habilitation and rehabilitation, accessibility, education, work and employment, and legal capacity
- Reviews how their country can create national institutions to implement and monitor the CRPD
